To me, the existence of My Bloody Valentine affirms that there is magic in the world. It's like circa 1989 they were the coolest people on the planet and listening to their music just takes me back there with them.
The Stone Roses and The Jesus and Mary Chain are all probably assholes. Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth guys are cool but MBV more than anyone gives you the impression that they're totally sweet nice people without sacrificing any cool points.
